Full Mouth Dental Implants Essex

At Winning Smiles, the main treatment we provide is full-mouth dental implants to replace all teeth. We also do full sets of veneers if needs are more cosmetic. The options are covered below, including costs, to help you choose.

The full-mouth dental implant methods we use are to provide complete stability so that you can eat anything you want, and the teeth will often look better than the original teeth. People will notice your smile.

Full Sets of Dental Implants

Whole-mouth dental implants are all connected to titanium fixtures in the jaw bone which are immune to decay and ultra-strong.

We can fit either porcelain or acrylic teeth to replace the ones you have lost which connect securely to the titanium implants placed in the jaw bone.

Same Day New Teeth or ‘All on 4’ Implant System

If conditions are favourable (not all cases) the stability of these implants means that patients can leave the clinic with their final full set of replacement new teeth just hours after they arrive, no temporary solutions are needed.

Our Dental Implantologist

Our three treatment options to replace all the teeth in the upper or lower jaw (or a complete set)

Option 1: Removable full-mouth implant dentures

Cost from £5,600 (Lower Jaw) Cost from £9,000 (Upper Jaw)

These teeth are removable by the patient and are removed twice daily to clean around the implants that support them.

Using implants to secure a special implant denture is the most cost-effective way of replacing all the teeth in one jaw. Implant dentures rest on the gum but have 2 or 4 implants to hold them in place, addressing one of the major problems that patients talk about with normal dentures – the fact that they won’t stand still!

NB: The difference in costs between the lower and the upper jaw is because we need to fit twice as many implants in the upper jaw. The bone isn’t as strong, and the denture needs extra support.

Implant dentures stay firmly fixed in place and allow you to eat hard foods again and talk with the confidence that they won’t fall out mid-sentence!

Advantages of Implant Retained Dentures

  • Great for patients who are already used to wearing dentures because these dentures don’t move – you can eat an apple with these.
  • Because these dentures are supported by the dental implants, they are less bulky, and the palate is only partially covered. Most patients who gag on normal dentures can wear these ones without the gagging reflex being triggered.
  • Lowest cost way to replace a full arch or full mouth of failed or missing teeth.
  • Also these teeth are easier to clean around than fixed bridge teeth because you can just take them out and use a toothbrush directly on the implants. Great for patients who struggle with cleaning or have impaired dexterity eg due to arthritis.

Disadvantages of Implant Retained Dentures

  • They are removable and need to be taken out twice a day to clean around the implants which support them
  • They are bulkier than permanently fixed implant (bridge) teeth
  • The special connectors (eg locators or bar grips) wear over time due to daily removal and re-insertion so these parts need to be replaced periodically
  • This full arch solution can not be fitted on the same day as the implants are inserted. Not suitable for same-day teeth. Usually patients have to wear temporary dentures with glue for 3 months before the implant dentures are fixed onto them.

Option 2: Permanently fixed full mouth implant acrylic teeth

Option 2: Permanently fixed full mouth implant acrylic teeth
Option 2: Permanently fixed full mouth implant acrylic teeth

Cost from £13,500 per jaw

A fixed bridge full set of teeth using off the shelf high quality acrylic or composite denture teeth wrapped around a titanium frame which connects directly to 4 implants. These bridges are permanently fixed in the mouth.

Advantages of Fixed implant titanium acrylic full set

  • A cost-effective option using off-the-shelf teeth rather than bespoke ceramic teeth
  • Under the right conditions these teeth can be fitted to the implants the same day as extractions and implant placements (All on 4/Same Day Teeth
  • Much less bulky than implant-retained dentures or conventional dentures
  • Permanently fixed in place, no daily removal for cleaning

Disadvantages of Fixed implant acrylic full set

  • These bridges are not as strong as ceramic full-arch fixed bridges, the long-term failure rate is higher.
  • Acrylic/composite teeth start to stain after the first year or two, unlike ceramic teeth, which are more stain resistant.
  • Because these structures are not as rigid, we tend to make these bridges shorter by putting fewer teeth on them

Option 3: Permanently fixed full mouth implant ceramic teeth

Option 3: Permanently fixed full mouth implant ceramic teeth
Option 3: Permanently fixed full mouth implant ceramic teeth

Cost from £18,000 per jaw

A fixed full set of custom-made ceramic teeth lovingly sculpted by our Master Ceramist. The Gold Standard for full mouth implant treatment. As well as staying beautiful for years, these teeth most closely resemble natural teeth in size shape and feel.

Advantages of Ceramic full mouth implant teeth

  • The strongest full-mouth implant bridge teeth with very low long-term failure rates
  • Because they are so strong; the initial higher costs are offset by the need to replace them less often
  • Ceramic (also known as porcelain) is the most stain-resistant material available – these teeth are more stain resistant than natural enamel and maintain their shine for many years
  • These bridges closely match the size of natural teeth – much less bulky than the acrylic alternative
  • Each tooth is bespoke on these bridges, the level of detail built into them gives them a natural lustre that is unmatched by acrylic or composite bridge teeth

Disadvantages of Ceramic full mouth implant teeth

  • Being completely custom to the individual, with the best material, these are the most expensive option.

How we chose our dental implant system

We only use the best implants available, and all our implants are from the same manufacturer. It might be helpful to see how we chose them.

The titanium element of the implant teeth are naturally available from multiple manufacturers.

The implants we use are by a manufacturer called Ankylos. These titanium implants are the foundation upon which we build your new teeth. If they fail then we have a serious problem. The teeth, the bridges, the implant dentures can be replaced. But if the implants fail, replacing them is a complicated and long drawn out process.

The four main implant manufacturers in our opinion, that have the longest track record and most robust long term research and development are

  • Ankylos
  • Nobel
  • Straumann
  • Astra

These are companies that have invested in improving over the years and have the long term data and results necessary to create the most reliable titanium implants.

There are equally oId firms who still use old design patents that have not invested in the necessary R&D. There are also new companies that base their designs on expired patents, as well as innovative firms that bring something new to the marketplace.

Our issue with newer implant systems is that by definition, long term studies on failure rates are not yet available. We favour long term success rates over any other decision criteria.

There are lots of old tech and newcomers alike, brands including Southern, Megagen, Hiossen, Zimmer Biomet, Sirona, DS Taper, Euroteknika, DTI. We are not commenting on anything other than how we made our decision, to give patients confidence in the technology we use.

Why we chose Anklyos

To us, they showed the most impressive studies into long-term success rates.

Does it hurt?

The most surprising thing about Dental Implants is that there is very little pain.

It looks like it should hurt, but the reality is that most dental pain is caused by touching a nerve on a live tooth. In this instance, we’re removing teeth entirely, so whilst there is some discomfort, we are extremely careful with all of our pain management at Winning Smiles. We take the time and give all our consideration, and never rush.

While the operation is being carried out your jaw is numbed so that you don’t feel any pain.

In our experience, if you have one or two implants inserted, you will be able to go back to work or to resume normal activities on the same day. If you have multiple implants, or a full jaw is being treated, you will need a couple of days’ recovery time as you would with any other operation.

You can also choose to be sedated if you wish.

You will need someone with you to drive you home.

What does the treatment involve?

After an initial free consultation to find out whether dental implants are the right treatment for you, we carry out an immediate detailed assessment and x-rays using our specialist low-dose dental CT scanner.

Having the CT scanner in-house at Winning Smiles prevents costly hospital CT referrals (up to £600!) We will provide a written assessment and include all the costs for the full mouth implants, so there are no surprises.

Who is the treatment suitable for?

Dental implants are the perfect solution in a range of situations. They may be just what you are looking for if:

  • you have just lost one or more teeth;
  • you know you are about to lose one or more teeth;
  • you are frightened you may be about to lose some or all of your teeth;
  • you have recently lost/ started to lose your teeth but don’t want dentures (false teeth);
  • you currently have dentures and don’t like wearing them;
  • you can’t wear dentures because they make you gag or choke

What they say about us

Quality Dentistry, Dental Implants

I cannot thank Andrew and his team enough for their highly supportive and professional treatment during my dental implant surgery. Andrew is clearly a highly skilled dental practitioner and he put me at ease straight away. My case was not straightforward and other dentists were not able to help – Winning Smiles COULD! I am so impressed by the quality of Andrew’s dentistry and his eye for detail. I HIGHLY recommend this dentist and love my new implants!

Judy – Denture Phobia

Thank goodness for Google! I searched “dental / denture phobia” and came up with the Winning Smiles website. I am 62 years old and work in a position where I am constantly dealing with people face to face. Having had dental problems for many years and having been unable to cope with regular dentures or even sitting in the dentist’s chair I was at the point of considering giving up work as my dental appearance was so poor I felt constantly embarrassed and yet could not overcome my phobia to visit a dentist.

From my first contact with Winning Smiles I have nothing but praise for Andrew Fennell and indeed his whole team. I now have denture implants and can smile again for the first time in years and although I still have some work to be done I have no fear! Thank you so so much.

Treatments: Implant Retained Dentures

Dental Review Response

By Andrew

Judy thanks so much for your honesty here. So many patients are in a similar situation and they want to know that something can be done to help them overcome their nerves and sort out their dental problems.

Many patients suffer so much with their dentures that they either give up and go ‘toothless’ or only wear them for show – being careful never to eat in front of anyone. Dentures can be very difficult to wear – even the good ones move around quite a bit (especially in the lower jaw) – eating hard food? Forget it.

Soft foods only – and nipping to the bathroom after every meal to remove trapped food. Hardly glamorous.

About 10% of denture patients can’t wear them because they cause gagging.

And why have these patients lost so many teeth in the first place? It’s as Judy says – a fear of visiting the dentist (often started as a child) which keeps them away unless they are in total agony by which time it is often too late to save the tooth and the extractions start. Our first task with a patient like Judy (and there are many) is to reassure them that

  • 1) We care
  • 2) We understand
  • 3)We are not going to make you feel like its all your fault (its usually a childhood dentist at fault in truth)
  • 4) We will take all the time we need (no rushing)
  • 5) It’s never too late – we can provide a fully functioning solution.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know if I am suitable for Dental Implants?

We start with a 3D digital CT scan of the jaws to measure bone volume. We also carry out a comprehensive examination of the mouth and risk assessments. A written report is produced (in patient-friendly language) and if there are risks then we will advise on how best to mitigate them.

How long to Ceramic Teeth Implant Bridges last?

Generally 10 years or more, we guarantee them for 5 years. The cost is 50% more than acrylic teeth.

How long do Acrylic Teeth Implant Bridges last?

Generally, between 3 and 5 years, we guarantee them for the first 2 years. They cost 50% less than ceramic teeth.

How long do Implants last?

Generally, if a patient is cleaning carefully at home, seeing the hygienist every 3-6 months, and is a non-smoker the implants can be expected to last 10-15 years or more. However, if a patient smokes, doesn't clean them well, and fails to see the hygienist the implants can fail within 5 years.

Can I have Dental Implants if I smoke?

Yes, but we are unable to offer our usual guarantees to smokers because they get many more failures after surgery and in the long term the implants will last about half as long as implants in non-smokers.

Are there any disadvantages that I need to be aware of when getting a Full Mouth Dental Implants?

Yes:
  1. they don't last forever because over time the bone shrinks away from the implants. This means you may require further treatment in the future if/when the implants fail
  2. some patients find the acrylic full mouth teeth quite bulky, they can affect speech (although this often improves with time)
  3. implant teeth feel different from natural teeth, some patients struggle to adjust to the way they feel
  4. some patients start clenching and grinding after they have their new teeth fitted which leads to painful muscles and chipped teeth. In rare cases, a bridge may be snapped in half.
  5. after the first few years some patients get infections around the implants which need surgical treatment to reverse.
  6. ceramic bridge teeth are much less bulky and better tolerated, they also last much longer, but they are 50% more expensive to produce

What are the advantages of getting a Full Mouth Dental Implants?

You can have a full and varied diet (vegans can bite into apples again, and those who prefer a steak can chew one with ease). You will be able to smile again and your self-confidence will be restored. Once the implants are completed the mouth is pain-free.

My teeth have been missing for a long time, can I still have Dental Implants?

Absolutely. However the longer you have been without teeth, the more your bones will have shrunk, so we tend to need more bone grafts in patients who lost their teeth many years before coming to us.

Is a Full Mouth Dental Implant available on the NHS?

In some cases, you may be eligible for full mouth/full arch treatment on the NHS eg if you have a congenital condition which means that you lost all your teeth at a very young age.

Do they put you to sleep for a Full Mouth Dental Implant?

We sedate our patients if they want to have their treatment done without being aware of it. This is not a general anesthetic but much safer. It works very well for nervous patients - but we offer it to everyone.

Why do I need to have a bone graft before getting Dental Implants?

his can be necessary where the bone volume is too small to allow the implants to be placed. Most times we graft at the time of implant surgery to save the patient having to go through more than 1 surgical procedure.

Do I need to do anything to prepare for Dental Implants?

Number 1 is if you smoke, give up!

How painful will it be to have Full Mouth Dental Implants fitted?

during surgery, there is little or no pain as we use a modern local anesthetic system (The Wand). Postoperative pain varies from patient to patient. Some patients have a sore mouth for the first day or two, and some patients have a sore mouth for 7-14 days. It also depends on how complicated the surgery is. Generally where bone grafts are needed there is a higher chance of having a sore mouth for longer.

Can I replace Removable Dentures with Dental Implants?

Absolutely, many of our patients come to us because they can't tolerate their dentures or simply want to improve their quality of life.

Are there reasons why I can't get Dental Implants?

Yes but only in rare and exceptional cases. We can treat 99% of the patients who come to us.

How long does a Full Mouth Dental Implants last?

this depends on the type of material used. Ceramic teeth will often last over 10 years but they are more expensive to produce. Bridges made using off-the-shelf acrylic denture teeth are lower cost but will last only 3-5 years

Can Full Mouth Dental Implants be done in One day?

Yes. We are able to perform same-day teeth replacement in 1 in 3 cases. Conditions have to be right, not everyone is suitable.

How long does it take to get Full Mouth Dental Implants?

Most cases take between 3 and 5 months to complete.

Am I too old or too young to have a Full Mouth Dental Implants?

There is no age limit, we have successfully treated patients as old as 94 and as young as 18.

How much does a Full Mouth Dental Implants cost?

From £12500 per jaw (£25000 for both jaws) for fixed teeth and from £5000 (£14000 for both jaws as the upper jaw implant denture is more complicated) for a removable implant denture in the lower jaw using 2 implants. (These are using acrylic denture off-the-shelf teeth to keep the costs down, we also offer bespoke ceramic full arch bridges which last much longer but are more costly to produce eg £18000 per jaw. Also, some patients require bone grafts to increase the volume of bone available for implant placement and the grafts add an extra £550 - £1250 per side).
