What is composite dental bonding?
It is a cosmetic treatment that uses a composite resin to improve the appearance of teeth.
This treatment can repair chipped, cracked, or discoloured teeth. It can also be used to reshape and realign teeth, close gaps between them, and even lengthen teeth that have become worn down over time.
The treatment time is within a single visit. Cosmetic bonding only requires one visit to the dentist.
Why teeth bonding?
It is a great way to try out a new smile for a few years. It can significantly impact well-being, in our view, in a positive way. “Smiling more” feels like a great thing to be doing.
Part of the attraction is that it won’t last forever. It can be a relatively inexpensive way of trying things out.
What teeth bonding can’t do
While it can have many advantages over other methods, such as veneers or crowns, there are some potential disadvantages, or at least to consider before undergoing the bonding procedure.
It is not as hard wearing as a natural tooth enamel, or porcelain veneers, and will degrade over time
Although we colour match to the original teeth, the material can be as porous as natural teeth, probably quicker. They will get stained with prolonged exposure to coffee, wine and particularly cigarettes.
One consideration is tooth whitening before the procedure, and matching afterwards to enhance the overall effect.
Once done, looking after them carefully is important, they can get damaged biting hard materials.
Bonded teeth are renewable
The point in many ways, is the process can restore teeth without damaging them. The composite material can be removed and replaced again in future.
Composite bonding process
Composite is a structurally hard and beautiful-looking new tooth like material that we layer over the existing teeth. It has revolutionised smiles without damaging your teeth forever.
We prepare the surface of the tooth or teeth we are working on, and add a solution to help the bonding material and to prevent any . The tooth coloured resin is added, layered and shaped.
Cosmetic issues
If the original teeth were uneven, we can often make them look straighter as well as repairing them. Gaps and spaces between adjacent teeth can be layered over, to help improve crooked or crowded smiles.
Enhancing the smile is always our goal.
A great deal of skill is involved with shaping; it is a hand-crafted process. We now have thousands of hours and cases to have perfected the art.
We will ask you what you want, and give you a natural looking smile.
