The Three Whole-Jaw Dental Implant Treatment Options To Replace All The Teeth

The full mouth dental implant methods we use provide complete stability, so that you can eat anything you want, and the teeth will often look better than the original teeth. People will notice your smile.

Option 1: Removable Full-Mouth Implant Dentures

Implant Retained Dentures: Cost from £5,600 (Lower Jaw), Cost from £9,000 (Upper Jaw)

These teeth are removable by the patient and need to be removed twice daily to clean around the implants that support them.

Using implants to secure a special implant denture is the most cost-effective way of replacing all the teeth in one jaw. Implant dentures rest on the gum but have 2 or 4 implants to hold them in place, addressing one of the major problems that patients talk about with normal traditional dentures – the fact that they simply won’t stand still!

NB: The difference in costs between the lower and the upper jaw is because we need to fit twice as many implants in the upper jaw. The bone isn’t as strong, and the denture needs extra support.

Implant dentures stay firmly fixed in place and allow you to eat hard foods again and talk with the confidence that they won’t fall out mid-sentence!

Advantages of Implant Retained Dentures

  • Great for patients who are already used to wearing dentures because these dentures don’t move – you can eat an apple with these.
  • Because these dentures are supported by the implants, they are less bulky, and the palate is only partially covered. Most patients who gag on normal dentures can wear these ones without the gagging reflex being triggered.
  • The lowest cost way to replace a full arch or full mouth of failed or missing teeth.
  • Also, these teeth are easier to clean around than fixed bridge teeth because you can just take them out and use a toothbrush directly on the implants. Great for patients who struggle with cleaning or have impaired dexterity, e.g. due to arthritis.

Disadvantages of Implant Retained Dentures

  • They are removable and need to be taken out twice a day to clean around the implants, which support them.
  • They are bulkier than permanently fixed implants (bridge) teeth.
  • The special connectors (eg locators or bar grips) wear over time due to daily removal and re-insertion,  so these parts need to be replace periodically.
  • This full arch solution can not be fitted on the same day as the implants are inserted. Not suitable for same-day teeth. Usually, patients have to wear temporary dentures with glue for 3 months before the implant dentures are fixed onto them.

Option 2: Permanently Fixed Full-Mouth Implant Acrylic Teeth

Cost from £13,500 per jaw

A fixed bridge full set of teeth using off-the-shelf quality acrylic or composite denture teeth wrapped around a titanium frame, which connects directly to 4 implants. These bridges are permanently fixed in the mouth.

Advantages of a Fixed Implant, Titanium Acrylic Full Set

  • A cost-effective option using off-the-shelf teeth rather than bespoke ceramic teeth
  • Under the right conditions, these teeth can be fitted to the implants the same day as extractions and implant placements (All on 4/Same Day Teeth.
  • Much less bulky than implant-retained dentures or conventional dentures
  • Permanently fixed in place, no daily removal for cleaning

Disadvantages of a Fixed Implant Acrylic Full Set

  • These bridges are not as strong as ceramic full-arch fixed bridges' the long-term failure rate is higher.
  • Acrylic/composite teeth start to stain after the first year or two, unlike ceramic teeth, which are more stain resistant.
  • Because these structures are not as rigid, we tend to make these bridges shorter by putting fewer teeth on them.

Option 3: Permanently Fixed Full-Mouth Implant Ceramic Teeth

Cost from £18,000 per jaw

A fixed full set of custom-made ceramic teeth lovingly sculpted by our Master Ceramist. The Gold Standard for full-mouth implant treatment. As well as staying beautiful for years, these teeth most closely resemble natural teeth in size, shape, and feel. Each is as strong and beautiful as the real tooth.

Advantages Of Ceramic Full-Mouth Implant Teeth

  • The strongest full-mouth implant bridge teeth have very low long-term failure rates.
  • Because they are so strong, the initial higher costs are offset by the need to replace them less often.n
  • Ceramic (also known as porcelain) is the most stain-resistant material available – these teeth are more stain resistant than natural enamel and maintain their shine for many years.s
  • These bridges closely match the size of natural teeth, much less bulky than the acrylic alternative.e
  • Each tooth is bespoke on these bridges' the level of detail built into them gives them a natural lustre that is unmatched by acrylic or composite bridge teeth.

Disadvantages Of Ceramic Full-Mouth Implant Teeth

  • Being completely custom to the individual, with the best material, these are the most expensive option.

Why Dental Implants?

These dental treatments are the perfect solution in a range of situations. They may be just what you are looking for if:

  • You have just lost a single tooth or more teeth.
  • You know you are about to lose one or more teeth.
  • You are frightened that you may be about to lose some or all of your teeth.
  • You have recently lost/ started to lose your teeth, but don’t want dentures (false teeth).
  • You currently have dentures and don’t like wearing them.
  • You can’t wear dentures because they make you gag or choke.

Full Sets Of Dental Implants

Whole mouth dental implants are all connected to titanium fixtures in the jawbone, which are immune to decay and ultra-strong.

We can fit either porcelain or acrylic teeth to replace the ones you have lost, which connect securely to the titanium implants placed in the jawbone.

Same Day Teeth or ‘All on 4’ Implant System

If conditions are favourable (not all cases), the stability of these implants means that patients can leave the clinic with their final full set of replacement teeth just hours after they arrive, no temporary solutions are needed.

Immediate Dental Implants

If you are worried you may be losing all or some of your teeth, please come and talk to our implant dentist. Things are probably not as bad as you think, and we are always happy to talk to you through the range of dental implant procedures that will help, as quickly or slowly as you need to go.

It is worth knowing that teeth extraction will result in bone loss if not replaced quickly. This is frequently why bone grafts are needed where teeth have been missing for a while. We can advise after the initial consultation and covered by a detailed treatment plan.

How We Chose Our Dental Implant System

We only use the best implants available, and all our implants are from the same manufacturer. It might be helpful to see how we chose them.

The titanium element of the implant teeth is naturally available from multiple manufacturers.

The implants we use are made by a manufacturer called Ankylos. These titanium implants are the foundation upon which we build your new teeth. If they fail, then we have a serious problem. The teeth, the bridges, and the implant dentures can be replaced. But if the implants fail, replacing them is a complicated and long, drawn-out process.

The four main implant manufacturers, in our opinion, that have the longest track record and most robust long-term research and development are

  • Ankylos
  • Nobel
  • Straumann
  • Astra

These are companies that have invested in improving over the years and have the long-term data and results necessary to create the most reliable titanium implants.

There are equally old firms who still use old design patents that have not invested in the necessary R&D. There are also new companies that base their designs on expired patents, as well as innovative firms that bring something new to the marketplace.

Our issue with newer implant systems is that, by definition, long-term studies on failure rates are not yet available. We favour long-term success rates over any other decision criteria.

There are lots of old tech and newcomers alike, brands including Southern, Megagen, Hiossen, Zimmer Biomet, Sirona, DS Taper, Euroteknika, and DTI. We are not commenting on anything other than how we made our decision, to give patients confidence in the technology we use.

Why Did We Choose Ankylos?

To us, they showed the most impressive studies into long-term success rates.

Does It Hurt?

The most surprising thing about Dental Implants is that there is very little pain.

It looks like it should hurt, but the reality is that most dental pain is caused by touching a nerve on a live tooth. In this instance, we’re removing teeth entirely, so whilst there is some discomfort, we are extremely careful with all of our pain management at Winning Smiles. We take the time and give all our consideration, and never rush.

While the operation is being carried out, your jaw is numbed so that you don’t feel any pain.

In our experience, if you have one or two implants inserted, you will be able to go back to work or resume normal activities on the same day. If you have multiple implants or a full jaw is being treated, you will need a couple of days’ recovery time as you would with any other operation.

You can also choose to be sedated if you wish.

You will need someone with you to drive you home.

What Does The Treatment Involve?

After an initial free consultation to find out whether dental implants are the right treatment for you, we carry out an immediate, detailed assessment and x-rays using our specialist low-dose dental CT scanner. Having the CT scanner in-house at Winning Smiles prevents costly hospital CT referrals (up to £600!). We will provide a written assessment and include all the costs for the full mouth implants, so there are no surprises.
