At Winning Smiles, we provide all types of dental implants for single missing teeth, or for a full set of teeth in one or both jaws, using Implant Retained Dentures or Implant-Bridges

We can even provide full jaw teeth replacement in a day.

Why Dental Implants?

Implants are based on a titanium ‘root’ which is immune to decay and ultra strong. It provides comfort, confidence in eating and social situations. Implants are now getting less expensive and even more functional, meaning that up to 90% of people will now be suitable for Dental Implant procedures.

How Long Does It Take?

Using advanced dental implants, in certain cases we are able to provide ‘teeth in a day’ to replace a full upper or lower arch with replacement teeth. This has become more feasible in recent years, with the march of technology.

Where the Dental Implants need time to bond with the jaw, then we would provide temporary teeth for anything up to six months.

Does It Hurt?

Although it may look as though it should hurt, we use local anaesthetic delivered by the ‘Dental Wand’, which is a painless injection developed in the US. It’s brilliant; patients rarely feel anything at all. The main reason is that we’re not dealing with live nerves.

It may get a little uncomfortable if you have to keep your mouth open for extended periods, but you’re in control, so we always take breaks when needed.

Plus, you can have sedation if you wish, at no extra charge.

After Effects

The day after your implants are placed, pain is minimal, but the gums can be sore when pressing on them until fully healed (1–2 weeks).

We provide oral sedation if you wish, using Temazepam. Similar to Valium, these tablets are faster acting and the effects only last for 2 hours. We do not charge for this service. You are able to talk and walk, though you would be a bit wobbly with the Sedative effects.

How Long Do Implants Last?

Studies have shown that clean implants in healthy, non-smoking mouths last much longer than implants with plaque and debris around them.

Clean and well-kept implants in non-smokers can last over 20 years. Implants that are not kept clean or in a patient who smokes can last only 6 or 7 years.

Patients Who Have Gum Disease

If you have lost your teeth because of gum disease, then you may also find that your implants don’t last for 20 years. We can, and do, always advise on these long-term risk factors.

One benefit of having a set of implant teeth that are removable is that it is much easier to keep them really clean, to help them last the distance.

Ongoing Maintenance?

We encourage all our implant patients to visit the hygienist every 3–6 months, depending on how ‘at risk’ they are of losing their implants long term.
