Instant Veneers – as seen on Jeremy Kyle

I never thought I’d say it, but the Jeremy Kyle show had quite an impact one day last month on our dental practice.

Thanks to a recent programme featuring new cosmetic dentistry techniques and ‘instant’ veneers, our phone rang off the hook all day. Who’d have thought the show would have that much influence!

You’ve probably heard of porcelain veneers, they’ve been around for quite some time.  They’re the reason so many celebrities have perfect teeth and bright, white smiles.  Simon Cowell, Miley Cyrus, 50 Cent, Katie Price and Hilary Duff are all rumoured to have got themselves a set of veneers – and at a celebrity price.  A full set of porcelain veneers can cost thousands, and yes, we do still fit these when the occasion demands it.

However, ‘instant’ or ‘composite’ veneers, at a fraction of the cost, put a fantastic smile within the reach of the rest of us, which I guess is why Jeremy Kyle’s show provoked such as response.  But then, a dazzling smile, a more confident and youthful look – it’s a service that was always going to be popular, if only people knew it existed!

Immediate veneers before and after picture

The flexibility of this new material does mean that Instant, or Immediate Veneers are the modern answer to crooked teeth, staining or gaps between teeth.  They are fitted quickly and easily over your existing teeth in just one visit to the surgery, and there’s no need for your own teeth to be filed down (as with porcelain veneers) so it’s pain-free too.  Yes, really.

If you think that sounds too good to be true – we thought that too, but there really isn’t a downside to this. Instant veneers do look great, they are long lasting, and easily repaired if chipped. The cost is just £350 per tooth, which is about half the price of the porcelain method.

When choosing instant veneers our main piece of advice is to find an experienced composite dentist. I know, we would say that, but not all dentists follow the same career path.

It is different, because whereas porcelain veneers are made in a lab by a technician, instant veneers are shaped by the dentist in the surgery so your dentist needs to have a good eye and a little artistic flair!

  1. I’m a little confused, can this brighten up my smile without neededing any drilling/filing? I’ve got stained lower teeth but my teeth are too sensitive for whitening and I don’t want them ground down for veneers.

    • Hi Helen,

in a word, absolutely! The lady in the before and after (instant veneers) photo had no drilling and no anaesthetic. Why not come and see us for a free consultation to see if you are suitable?

  2. heya my name is sharon im livin in ireland and have quiet alot of erosion on my teeth . im a recovering bulemic and the enamel has come off my teeth was wondering would this procedure sort this problem and do they practice it only in the uk or is it practiced in ireland too. thanks

    • Hi Sharon,
Immediate veneers are a good medium term solution for you – but long term porcelain crowns will be more resilient to stains, stay in better and have the edge aesthetically. To work well Immediate Veneers have to be bonded to lots of enamel – which will be lacking in your case. I’m sure it is practised in Ireland. Try Blue Apple Dental – if he’s not near you he may know a man/woman who can who is closer to home?

      best of luck with it

    • Dear Dr Williamsburg,
Porcelain Veneers are superb and nothing can touch them for lustre and stain resistance. However Immediate veneers using the latest cosmetic composites are getting better all the time:
-We can now polish them to an enamel-like finish.
-There are no lab bills so they cost less.
-There is much less tooth reduction (grinding away of enamel to all those non dentists reading this)
-When finished they wear like teeth so no danger of causing accelerated enamel abrasion to the tips of the lower teeth.
-Due to there being little or now enamel reduction composite veneers are usually bonding to lots of enamel with little or no dentine bonding required: they are less likely to fall off than conventional porcelain veneers
-They can be done in one sitting
-Finally they can be repaired seamlessly if they chip without needing to replace the whole veneer

Lots of reasons to love them!

    • Hi Ramesh,
      |Our Immediate Veneers are not off the shelf. We build them up free-hand in composite using ‘Enamel Plus’ HFO from Mycerium, a superior quality aesthetic restorative material developed by Dr Lorenzo Vanini in Italy – probably the world’s best known composite/aesthetic dentist. You can purchase Enamel Plus from Optident.

    • Instant Veneers are suitable for any age really. It depends what the problem is. EG a young person (under 18) who has crooked teeth would be well advised to have braces to straighten them rather than going for any sort of veneer treatment.

  3. HI,
I have a front tooth that is a tiny bit longer then the other and another tooth that is pushed back front I hate smiling for pictures and would really love the perfect smile.

    • Shantelle,
without seeing you it is hard to decide what would be the best treatment for you. I would advise that you come and see us for a free consultation and we can give you a good range of options and likely costs.
      Best Wishes

  4. hi how much would this cost for my top 4 teeth,my teeth aren`t straight and i have 2 fangs but just want them to look straighter.and the bottom ones whitened?

    • Hi Phil,
if you have 4 immediate veneers on your upper front 4 teeth they would cost £300 each. The fangs could be smoothed down and polished to reduce their ‘fang-like’ appearance. Whitening would be best done on all teeth (upper and lower) together before the veneers. We currently charge £395 for our whitening (results guaranteed or your money back!)

  5. Im sixteen and want my top teeth all replaced in this method… how much would this cost? Also would i have to travel to england (from scotland) to get it done?

    • Hi Duncan,
Instant veneers are good for young people because they don’t involve grinding enamel off your teeth and can be reversed if necessary. I am not aware of anyone in Scotland who provides them but it would be worth searching for and talking to your local cosmetic dentists and asking them if they do Immediate (aka ‘Composite’) veneers.
      Best of luck
      Dr Fennell
