2 days post op after upper fixed denture and halfway through treatment feeling a little sore and swollen but already more confident and looking forward to the finished result.
After being scared of the dentist for many years ( and that’s an understatement ) I finally plucked up the courage to have a full implant denture.
Andrew and Toni his dental assistant put me at ease and explained in detail what would happen.
I would just like to say thank you so much for helping me through my fears and of course for my lovely new teeth I’m having to learn to smile again as I haven’t for years, but I can now, thanks to Andrew and his team. I had a bridge fitted years ago due to an accident which didn’t look good, wrong colour to the rest of my teeth. Didn’t smile for years in photos as it showed up. The bridge started to get loose last year to the stage that I could only eat soft food of fear it would fall out. Four months ago the bridge did fall out. I made an appointment to see Dr Andrew Fennell at Winning Smile.
After my consultation with Andrew I knew he was the man for the job as he is extremely professional and explained all the options to me.
Andrew removed all my upper teeth and I have had an implant denture fitted. I cannot tell you how my quality of life has changed already. Just the simple things like eating an apple or having a steak makes a difference. Just to be able to smile again make a big difference. It’s a real confidence boaster.

After 5 hours pain free in the dentists chair I went home with my temporaries which were quite sensitive and I thought what have I done, maybe the old 1950s school dentists efforts could have been lived with.

Having suffered from gum disease and lost several teeth my wife nagged me into seeking remedial treatment.
I researched treatment both in the UK and Overseas, but being self-employed I really could not afford to take time off and have extensive visits overseas so finding a local specialist I could trust was paramount.

All of my treatment was carried out on premises including CT Scans and Implant surgery saving me valuable days of time and travelling.
I can honestly say the only discomfort in the 4 months of treatment I recieved was getting used to my temporary dentures and Andrew made this very clear from the start that this wouldnt be easy. He was right!
Even the two hour Hygenist session I needed before Implants was painless.
However, treatment now over I now have my IRD’s fitted they look brilliant, fit and work perfectly with no glue, pastes or powders to keep them in place. I am now eating normally again (which I havent done for years) and most of all enjoying smiling at everyone!

Thank goodness for Google! I searched “dental / denture phobia” and came up with the Winning Smiles website. I am 62 years old and work in a position where I am constantly dealing with people face to face. Having had dental problems for many years and having been unable to cope with regular dentures or even sitting in the dentist’s chair I was at the point of considering giving up work as my dental appearance was so poor I felt constantly embarrassed and yet could not overcome my phobia to visit a dentist.

Judy thanks so much for your honesty here. So many patients are in a similar situation and they want to know that something can be done to help them overcome their nerves and sort out their dental problems.
Many patients suffer so much with their dentures that they either give up and go ‘toothless’ or only wear them for show – being careful never to eat in front of anyone. Dentures can be very difficult to wear – even the good ones move around quite a bit (especially in the lower jaw) – eating hard food? Forget it.
Soft foods only – and nipping to the bathroom after every meal to remove trapped food. Hardly glamorous.
About 10% of denture patients can’t wear them because they cause gagging.
And why have these patients lost so many teeth in the first place? It’s as Judy says – a fear of visiting the dentist (often started as a child) which keeps them away unless they are in total agony by which time it is often too late to save the tooth and the extractions start.
