Gentle Dentistry
The most common fear when it comes to dentistry is of pain when having treatment. This is completely normal!
We (Winning Smiles Dentists Romford), have helped hundreds of people past this problem, with our extensive experience in this area, and our investment in medical technology to support all of our patients.
The dental wand, 3d scanning and conscious sedation have helped hundreds of people. We love the reviews people leave after having solved the problem: the fear of dentistry and wanting nicer teeth.
Painless Injection
The Dental Wand releases a small dose of anaesthetic to numb the area before we do anything at all. A gentle experience for everyone, every time.
Conscious Sedation
Conscious sedation (CS) is the best of both worlds. Remain in control during the process, completely forget the whole thing afterwards. Amazing but true.
The Dental Wand releases a small dose of anaesthetic so that the area is being numbed before the needle goes in. This means a pain-less injection for everyone, every time.
Some dentists charge extra to use this technology – but for us, it is at the heart of our gentle dental philosophy, not an optional extra!
How can dentistry be painless?
Avoiding painful injections is the first step. We use the dental wand for all of our patients.
It is perfectly normal to be worried about dentistry,
Conscious sedation (CS) is the final step to reassure most anxious patients needing dental treatment. If you have a needle phobia, concerns about gag reflexes and invasive dental treatment, Conscious Sedation is the best way overcoming all these fears.
Interestingly, you are neither awake nor are you put to sleep. The sedatives and painkillers administered makes you utterly relaxed and drowsy and makes you completely unaware of both the numbing anaesthetic (LA) and the actual treatment.
And finally – the most important ingredient?
We take our time – anaesthetic does not take effect ‘at the speed of light’!
Often new patients tell us that their experience of fillings is a sharp pain from the injection followed by a dentist drilling the tooth before it has gone properly numb: the result? Pain and Fear.
The most important ingredient is taking the time. The time for painless procedures to take effect, the time to ask if everything is ok, and to pay attention to the answer.
Take the time to come and see us and talk things through beforehand, it’s never as bad as you think.
What they say about us
Jenny – No need to hide your smile
I must have been the worst patient to walk through the doors of winning smiles, being so afraid of dentists. I have tried at least 5 to get my teeth sorted out but never been able to stay in the chair for more than 5 minutes, so when my friend recommended me to see Andrew I was convinced it would end up the same. I have been 2 years without front teeth, top and bottom, following a riding accident. I was becoming very depressed because my confidence was going as I found it difficult to talk to people and make eye contact, which is important in my work and was always putting my head down and covering my mouth.
I had a consultation with Andrew and he explained what work could be done. He was very professional but at the same time, reassuring with a calm and kind manner. I actually began to believe I could go through with the implant that I needed.
When the day came for the work to be done, I was very, very nervous but felt quietly confident. I couldn’t believe how painless, quick and professionally it was done. I didn’t even need to take pain relief and that evening, tucked into a steak dinner.
Thank you Andrew and your great team for letting me smile again.

Barbara – No longer the Chair of Doom
Hi, i am almost at the end of my implant surgery. I have had a front tooth and one just to the side done so it was obviously very important that the implants looked good, matched the colour of my other teeth and looked like my own teeth. They do look good, they do match and they do look like i grew them myself!
Without wishing to bore you with my dental phobic history; i was a gibbering wreck, i couldn’t go to work on the days i visited the dentist and quite often couldn’t go the day after either!
I would guess that i must have been one of the worst cases that Andrew and his team have encountered; whimpering, yelping, whining and unable to breath – and that was just in the waiting room.
However, since finding Andrew: oh happy day, i am a changed woman!
I no longer have the fear, no longer call the dentist chair ‘the chair of doom’ and can go to work both before and after treatment….on the same day!
Not only has he worked miracles with my teeth he has also stopped me being terrified….no mean feat!
The team who work with him are equally great and deserve much credit as well.
If you are petrified i can only say go see him. He and the team will sort out your teeth and your fear.
