How can dentistry be painless?
Avoiding painful injections is the first step. We use the dental wand for all of our patients.

Conscious sedation (CS) is the final step to reassure most anxious patients needing dental treatment. If you have a needle phobia, concerns about gag reflexes and invasive dental treatment, Conscious Sedation is the best way overcoming all these fears.
Interestingly, you are neither awake nor are you put to sleep. The sedatives and painkillers administered makes you utterly relaxed and drowsy and makes you completely unaware of both the numbing anaesthetic (LA) and the actual treatment.
And finally – the most important ingredient?
We take our time – anaesthetic does not take effect ‘at the speed of light’!
Often new patients tell us that their experience of fillings is a sharp pain from the injection followed by a dentist drilling the tooth before it has gone properly numb: the result? Pain and Fear.
The most important ingredient is taking the time. The time for painless procedures to take effect, the time to ask if everything is ok, and to pay attention to the answer.

Rob – Rebuilding my Smile
After two weeks with my fab new smile, I feel inspired to share my experience.
From my first meeting and consultation with Andrew Fennell, I felt comfortrouble and at ease, a first for me I’m afraid, previous dentists must have studied at Dewhurst I think, nuff said.
I had a series of missing, loose and broken crowns, and my smile had disappeared and distorted over time. Andrew offered different options to rebuild the smile, we worked out the most cost effective way in my case would be a bridge, great, compared with dentures I was offered everywhere else this was fantastic and I was very happy to start treatment.
Winning Smiles attitude to pain management must be commended! That for me was a very big fear and what kept me away from a dentist for too long. The painless injection system used by Andrew was the most reassuring experience possible, from then on I was happy to go through hours of work and even have a laugh during treatment at times, amazing. I found the courage – so happy
I have just completed my treatment with Andrew at Winning Smiles and am so happy with the results. It has taken me over 2 years to find the courage to have the dental work done as I was so nervous. My first consultation and meeting with Andrew and Toni, his dental assistant, gave me not just the confidence but the full support to go ahead.
Every step was explained in full and any concerns I had were answered. It has taken 6 months in total but it was the best decision I have ever made.
