These days we know that retainers are for life, to keep teeth from gradually reverting.
What to do if your retainer doesn’t fit anymore
Its important to act quickly
Missing Retainers
Don’t delay. Time is of the essence. If you think your teeth are beginning to move and your retainer is mislaid or doesn’t fit, please don’t wait. Take immediate action, as the quicker you get to a dentist the better. The sooner things are sorted, the less time and money, probably, will need to be spent to get things back to the way they should be.
Please don’t feel embarrassed, it happens a lot.
If you have your retainer but it fits tightly
Don’t be shy, try and push it firmly into place. The teeth will start to move within 24 hours or so, but you may find that you can push them fully into place within a couple of days.
Happy Days! Keep them in for a couple of weeks, (remove only for cleaning and eating) and then continue to wear them every night after that.
If you have recently lost your retainers
Contact your friendly neighbourhood Orthodontic clinic to get you in asap for new impressions and new retainers – remember that every week the teeth move a little further in the wrong direction.
If your teeth have visibly moved
Don’t despair – teeth can ALWAYS be moved back to the correct position no matter what age you are or how long it has been since your orthodontics was completed. At Winning Smiles we have been treating relapsed orthodontic cases for nearly 20 years.
The good news is…
In most cases we do not need to enter back into full-on ‘brace-face’ orthodontics using train tracks and wires! Many cases can be treated with discreet removable aligners such as Inman and Invisalign or even ‘6 month smile’ system.
In cases where the teeth have moved a little further we can still treat you with discreet brackets bonded onto the back of the teeth so they can’t be seen, i.e. Lingual braces.
If you think you might benefit from seeing us, why not book a free consultation today and we can tell you
- How serious the relapse is
- How long it will take to fix
- How much it will cost and details of our monthly payment options
The Free Consultation
Without seeing things for ourselves, we can’t tell people what their options are.
And so with that in mind, we are happy to offer free consultations, as this is a big decision for most people. We are careful to take budget, comfort and appearance into account when explaining all the available choices and there is never any pressure to proceed, and certainly not on the day.
We set out to be a friendly practice and try to provide everybody with what’s right for them, at an affordable cost. We hope our dentist reviews give that impression.
